Type: T. Hawkins 993 (30 April 1996, in flower and fruit; Holotype: MO-2049904 (5689630)^{(GBIF, JSTOR)}; Isotypes: BM [BM001008858^{(GBIF, JSTOR)}], EAP [EAP127886^(JSTOR)], MEXU [PVT1210307^{(GBIF, JSTOR)}], PTBG [PTBG1000000145^(JSTOR)]).
Type locality: Honduras. Copán: Montaña Los Zapotes, mountain W of Los Zapotes, 18 km N of Copán ruinas on road to Agua Caliente from Copan ruinas and 2–3 km W of Los Zapotes school, 950–1050 m, 14°58′N, 89°10′W.
