  • Note: this name is based on "Mahoe, gen. nov.?" by Hillebrand, Fl. Hawaiian Isl.: 86 (1888).
  • Type: W. Hillebrand s.n. (Lectotype: K [​K000701704(GBIF, JSTOR), designated by Linney 1988: 69]; Isolectotype: K [​K000701705(GBIF, JSTOR), collected in 1870, determined by Linney on 8 April 1985]; 'Isotypes': BISH {BISH1016502 (586942)(JSTOR, JSTOR), BISH1016503 (581855)(JSTOR, JSTOR) [with J.M. Lydgate]} [both collected at pali of Kalaupapa, Molokai]).
    • Note: St. John & Frederick (1949: 300) designated a lost specimen at B (destroyed in 1943; monochrome photos available in St. John & Frederick 1949 and Linney 1988: 69) which was later rejected by Linney (1988).
  • Type locality: [United States of America. Hawaii:] Hawaiian Islands, in Molokai on the pali of Kalaupapa and in Oahu on the S. W. slope of Mt. Kaala (left branch of Makaleha).
