- Type locality: Pateira de Fermentelos, Portugal, (40° 33′ 21.456″ N 8° 30′ 31.5″ W).
- Holotype: Type strain S163, permanently cryopreserved in a metabolically inactive state as CAUP G 1501-CRYO at the Culture Collection of Algae at Charles University (CAUP) in Prague, Czech Republic. Isotype: TEM block CAUP G 1501. Reference strains (ex-types): The living cultures of S163 have been deposited as CAUP G 1501 at the Culture Collection of Algae at Charles University (CAUP) in Prague, Czech Republic, and as CCALA 1136 at the Culture Collection of Autotrophic Organisms (CCALA) in Trebon?, Czech Republic.
