Summary
DescriptionCarex aquatilis (23103997169).jpg
A common sedge along the margins of streams and ponds in temperate North America. The terminal spike is staminate, and the pistillate spikes are both pedicillate and have achenes and perigynia that are distinctly flat to lenticular (2-sided). The perigynia are greenish and veinless and longer than the subtending bract, and the lowest inflorescence bract overtops the plant. These traits combine with the habitat to distinguish the common water sedge.
