Especie Chilena perdida. Colectada en las cercanías de Constitución, cultivada en el Jardín Botánico Nacional. Forma parte del grupo stipulaceae sensu Reiche a la cual pertenecia Cassia foetida, C. stipulacea (actual Senna stipulaceae), C. frondosa y C. myrtifolia (actual Senna stipulacea var. anglorum), es muy fácil de determinar pues presenta ramillas nuevas peludas y una glandula entre los folíolos del par inferior, se diferencia de C. stipulacea por el Nº de foliolos, la pilosidad y el tamaño pues Senna stipulacea es un arbustito pequeño de hojas peladas lustrosas y esta es un arbusto de hasta 2 m de altura. Pues bien Trópicos indica que C. frondosa es sinónimo de C. biflora L. especie del caribe hasta Perú y Senna angustisiliqua tambien del Caribe. Ahora bien en Tropicos hay una frase inquetante, dice: "Annotation: ? Cassia pencana Philippi was on line 19 ", tambien hay en Reiche una anotación similar: "la descripción original (Cassia frondosa anotación mia) se completó en vista de Cassia pencana Phil". Consecuentemente si se acepta la propuesta de Trópicos esta notable especie debiera ser Cassia biflora de amplia distribución americana o en su defecto una especie endémica: Cassia pencana Phil. En la Flora del Conosur Cassia pencana no esta en la sinonimia de ninguna Senna ni Cassia del área del proyecto, tampoco Cassia frondosa pues no pertenece al área del proyecto, solo hay dos Senna del grupo stipulacea (estípulas foliosas no lineares) para Chile Senna stipulacea var. stipulacea y Senna stipulacea var. anglorum, y esta especie no pertenece a ninguna de ellas por su morfología notablemente distinta a ambas ni esta en esta en la sinonimia de alguna de ellas si se acepta la hipótesis que es Cassia pencana, consecuente es una especie perdida del catálogo de la Flora de Chile. |
