Humans are both Placentalia and Eutheria? edit

How come Artiodactyla are listed both here and under Placentalia? - 208.147.76.20 07:01, 11 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"Eutheria are mammals with a placenta like humans, mice or whales." Could somebody verify this? 193.198.140.35 08:37, 18 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

How can Placentalia and Eutheria both contain humans, mice, and whales? —Joe Jarvis 18:23, 20 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

It's two different naming conventions. - UtherSRG 18:32, 20 May 2005 (UTC)Reply
used synonymously --83.64.176.82 1 July 2005 09:09 (UTC)
They are not. Placentalia does not include some extinct genera, as explained in nl:Placentadieren. Ucucha 11:53, 15 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Subclass Marsupialia? edit

Why is this stupid classification with a subclass Marsupialia used? The most generally accepted classification seems to be as following:

  • Subclass Prototheria/Australosphenida
    • Order Platypoda
    • Order Tachyglossa
  • Subclass Theriiformes/Theria
    • Infraclass Metatheria
      • Supercohort (or whatever) Marsupialia
    • Infraclass Eutheria
      • Supercohort (or whatever) Placentalia

I'm going to change things. Ucucha 11:53, 15 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Probably because of en:Mammalia. I'd check there or a related page for some info. - UtherSRG 12:02, 15 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
See further en:Wikipedia:WikiProject_Tree_of_Life/Marsupial_poll. I think we should not follow this silly classification. Ucucha 13:39, 15 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Go for it. When MSW3 is out I plan envigorate Wikiproject Mammals so as to redo all of the Mammalian pages as best I can. I expect you'll be in on that as well. - UtherSRG 13:48, 15 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
So now that you've started, you should finish it. Theriiformes does not drill down to Placentalia... - UtherSRG 22:49, 15 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Multituberculata edit

The Multituberculata link has now become orphaned, this must be remedied. I have tried this, but my edits have been reverted, so I leave it to you. 128.255.194.41

Unmentioned supertaxon? edit

What about (unranked) Synapsidomorpha? It seems to be including Mammalia among its subclasses. — Ti89TProgrammer 23:35, 9 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

It makes no sense to me that it should be impossible to reach Mammalia by moving down the tree from higher taxa. In this case, as you suggest, the simplest solution seems to be to link Synapsidomorpha (rather than just Synapsida) from Amniota. I have now fixed this. Of course, its still impossible to navigate to the birds from above... Anaxial 13:21, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
It is possible to navigate to Mammalia (and Aves) directly from the Vertebrata page (use the overview). Stho002 22:42, 24 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
