Name

Melanotaenia senckenbergianus (Weber, 1911)

• Holotype: ZMA 103168.
• Paratypes: BMNH 1914.2.13.28 (1); CSIRO B 1193 [ex ZMA 103136] (1); NMBA 2752 (1); SMF 10022 (1), 10031-34 (7, 4, 15, 12), 10049 (1), 111756 (8); ZMA 103136 (? 8 or 1), 103168 (1).

Type locality: Terangan [Trangan] and Kobroor, Aru Island, Aru Islands, Maluku Province, Indonesia.

Etymology: This species was named senckenbergianus, presumably after the Senckenberg Museum of Frankfurt, Germany, publisher of the journal where the original description of this fish first appeared.
