- Syntypes: BMNH 2004.2.2.13 (1, poor condition).
Type locality: Severn River, tributary to Hudson Bay, Ontario, Canada.
Etymology: cato- (= inferior); stoma (= mouth), referring to its ventral position compared to terminal mouth of Cyprinus carpio. (From The ETYFish project)
