- Etymology: Ancient Greek κέρας, κέρατος (keras, keratos), "horn" + Latin diminutive -ella "alludes to the small horns on the cypselas" (Swenson, 1995:165).

- Type fixation: By monotypy (Hooker, 1844:25).
